Road safety week (Monday, July 31 to Saturday, August 5, 2023) is a national event to raise public awareness about traffic rules and ultimately reduce casualties due to road accidents. Millions lose their life and millions get injured in road accidents globally. mainly, due to a lack of awareness about traffic rules or behaviour of flouting them. Therefore, Road Safety Week is observed annually to make people more aware of the traffic rules and to persuade them to follow rules while on the road.
To create more aware and responsible citizens and make the students aware of traffic rules and safety measures that we should take while moving on the road, G.D. Goenka Public School, Sitapur also participated in this initiative and observed the Road Safety Week with great zeal and devotion.
Road Safety Week was celebrated under the banner of CBSE and it was from Monday, July 31August 5, 2023.
Various activities were organized on the school campus to mark the occasion. The activities were:
1. Role Play & Enactment 2. Skit 3. Sign & Signage Booklets- Reading & Discussion 4. Explanation of various situations and appropriate action needed using Display Panels 5. Quizzes
To observe the road safety week, the school organized a special assembly throughout the week from Monday, July 31 to Saturday, August 5, 2023. The assembly commenced with the prayer and thought for the day and a speech on Do’s and Don’ts was also delivered.
To make the students aware of the traffic rules, a skit was organized by the students of Class VII. It displayed the significance of wearing seat belts and helmets. It also reflected the harms of triple riding on two-wheelers and discouraged students from driving till they attain the age of 18 years. It also signified the importance of carrying a license. The students enjoyed the performance and learnt the basic safety rules, which must be followed on roads to have a safe journey. The Skit depicted how important it is to follow Road Safety Rules which can save so many innocent lives. The students pledged to follow these rules as they are the torchbearers of the nation.
Students learnt about the rules and various sign boards on the road, through the enactments done by the students themselves. Kids also participated very enthusiastically in the interactive sessions held during these enactments. On the whole, it was quite an informative and very fruitful session for the students. To validate the inculcation of road safety awareness, Quizzes were also conducted on road safety rules on 04 and 05 August 2023. It was aimed at developing knowledge about road safety measures.
The objectives of the quiz competition on the occasion of Road Safety Week were as follows:
– To raise and maintain the awareness of students about road safety issues
– To assist road safety organisations and personnel in India in maximising the potential for casualty reduction through education and publicity.
– Sensitize masses by raising awareness about road traffic injuries, their grave consequences and thus build community involvement around the issue of Road Safety
During the entire week, the campaign was celebrated through various activities and competitions. Students expressed their thoughts and opinions through various activities and advising people to avoid drunken driving, over-speeding and to wear helmets and seat belts and to avoid accidents. It was a great opportunity for students who participated with zeal and enthusiasm and enjoyed being a part of such an initiative aimed at bringing positive change in society.
